Knit Mitt Kit Swap

I received a lovely parcel from Eve today for the Knit Mitt Kit Swap. The bag is handmade - how clever is Eve? Lots of goodies including chocolate. The Mitt Kit part of the swap included some Debbie Bliss Aran Tweed, 5mm bamboo dpns (I didn't have this size - perfect!) and a Patons pattern booklet.

Thanks very much Eve - I love it!

Guess Where I've Been?

'Scuse crap mobile phone pic.

No yarn was purchased! Except for a ball of Trekking XXL sock yarn for Mum who couldn't come with us (me and t'other Sue) because she's done something nasty to her knee.
I did, however, spend over £40 on books...

Pics tomorrow.

Fetching Again

Its been a bit of a week. No Friday Night Spinning because I was on day 3 of a 4-day headache, gone now thankfully. Very little knitting thanks mainly to afore-mentioned headache. It was all I could do on the bus to and from work to stop myself from throwing up let alone concentrate on knitting. Nice! Moving right along...

My measly bit of knitting has resulted in another FO! Be still my beating heart, that's 3 FO's before the end of January. Okay, okay I know they're all small but it still sounds good to me!

Fetching part the second. Knit on 3.5mm bamboo dpns with Rowan Tapestry. These are for my cousin who has much smaller hands than me. I hope she likes them. And yes, I know I forgot to twist the cable on the right hand mitt in the opposite direction. Oh well, Pam won't notice!

I have to go into work tomorrow then I've got the rest of the week and the following Monday off. If I manage not to sleep the whole time away, look out for some serious progress!

Two FOs (and one from December) and its not even the end of January!

I was given a Fiber Trends felted clogs kit by Terri, my SP8. I started them a couple of days before Christmas and felted them on Christmas eve. They were sort of a stealth project although that wasn't intended. The Great Computer Crash Of 2006 was at fault. Excuse the Max-hair on them, they've been in use for a few weeks. In this house it doesn't take long for things to be christened with dog hair. Being black and white, Max has contrasting hair for every colour! :-)

Colinette Jitterbug socks. Started Christmas Day and finished 16th January. I used 2.75mm Brittany Birch dpns and knit them top down on 60 stitches with a short row heel. This is NICE sock yarn!

I've jumped on the Fetching bandwagon. Well, really, why wouldn't you? They're lovely to look at and quick to knit. This pair was knit with the leftover Patons Classic wool from the Fibre Trends clogs. I looooove purple, can you tell? :-)

I'll be starting another pair of these as soon as I finish this post. When I showed them to Mum she asked me to make a pair for a cousin whose birthday is today. They went out for lunch today and Mum took the mitts and some leftover Rowan Tapestry from my Clapotis to see if my cousin would like some knitted in that yarn. Cousin said yes so its back to the Fetching needles, pronto!

Colinette socks off the needles means that more socks have been cast on. Lornas Laces and the Conway pattern from Knitting on the Road. These are my commuter knitting so will take a while to finish. Although the purple/blue section looks like a big blob of pooling it is actually spiralling around the sock so I can live with that.

Finally, I've been on a bit of a book buying spree. This is what has arrived most recently. Victorian Lace and Arctic Lace should be arriving on Tuesday.

Friday Night Spinning

I joined Friday Night Spinners and this is the first instalment. I just don't get around to spinning as often as I'd like and I really don't know why! So I thought joining a spin-a-long might help. It will at least get me spinning regularly which is a good thing.

This is the fibre I carded a while ago. Its a superwash wool/nylon blend - perfect for socks of course. It feels a bit harsh while I'm spinning it but I'm sure it will soften up when its washed after I've plied it. I've got more of the lime than the darker blue-green, which is three distinct shades, so I'm alternating a rolag of lime with a rolag of the darker colours. I like it! I'm going to navajo ply it so that it will make striped socks when knit up.

Angi tagged me for the Weird meme. I've put off doing it till now because, believe it or not, I had to think about it! The things most people think are weird about me are normal amongst fibre freaks so I was a bit stuck.

Anyway, here goes.

THE RULES: Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

  1. I can write quite legibly upside down.
  2. Most people think I'm weird for living in the UK when I could be living in Australia.
  3. I don't watch TV.
  4. I read the Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkein at least once a year (and I can just about recite the movies word perfect!)
  5. I knit socks? What's with that? (from non-knitting Muggles)
  6. I've never smoked cigarettes or taken illegal drugs. Nor been tempted to.
I think I'm the last blogger on the planet to be tagged for this so I'm not going to tag anyone. If you haven't done it and feel the need to reveal your weirdness - go ahead. But tell me about it so I can compare! :-)

Saturday Sky

This is the river Severn at Worcester. The river is well over its banks. Worcester Cathedral is in the background. I work on the left hand side of this pic but there is quite a short but steep hill up to my building. I've been watching the river get wider and wider this week but it would have to be a flood of biblical proportions to reach my office. Still, its a nice view even looking like this!

Its been happening even though I haven't been able to blog about it

First, a very nice person gave me some Colinette Jitterbug for Christmas! This is absolutely gorgeous yarn to knit with. I'm using 2.75mm dpns because I had a bit of a pooling issue on 2.5mm. The yardage doesn't look enough but I split the skein into two and have enough for a pair for my UK size 6 feet. Sue also gave me some spinning fibre which I forgot to photograph.

The front and back of Turbulence from Knitting Nature were finished. Too small. Frogged. Restarted next size up and its looking too big! I don't think it is, I'm just being paranoid. No picture as I'm only about 6 inches into the plain stocking stitch back and its not worth looking at!

I've also started Eris in Jo Sharp 100% wool 8 ply (DK). Sorry about crappy pics - left it too late to take them. Nice to knit with and a lovely colour. If you're put off by the complicated cables and shaping of Eris (or I imagine Rogue too) don't be. The instructions and charts are really easy to follow. I thought the short row shaping in the cables to get the neck shaping would be difficult but it isn't. Mind you, I haven't got very far yet!

Knit From Your Stash update: No yarn bought! I even ignored the sale yarn in Beatties! (only 358 days to go...)

I'm Baaaaack!

Mostly anyway. I haven't yet discovered what I've lost off the old hard drive because I'm using a new one and have been too chicken to look at the old one!

No Saturday Sky today but hopefully things will now get back to normal!

My home computer crashed last Saturday and I've lost everything. So far I've been unable to get it up and running again and its beginning to look like I might be buying a new computer.
This post is really just to let everyone (including my SP9!) know that I am still alive and knitting but won't be posting all that regularly for the next (hopefully) short while. I'm reduced to getting in to work at 7.30am so I can do a bit of stealth blogging!

I will return - that's a promise! :-)
